How is a cruise call to our ports organised ?

A cruise call is planned up to two years in advance, on receipt of a call request from the maritime agent of the cruise line. This lead time allows the cruise lines to plan their itinerary and promote their cruises.


The cruise call is registered on a provisional schedule. When the time comes, this allows the call to be organised with the pilot and relevant maritime agent, amongst others.
Calls are confirmed at the start of each month, with the preparation of reception and security plans.


Two days before the call, the maritime agent sends confirmation with the precise arrival and departure times and a purchase order to request services from the relevant port.  
As the Riviera Ports have applied ISPS (International Ship & Port Facility Security) measures since 2004, security is very important. Teams of certified security agents control access to defined port zones, and scan luggage with specialised equipment.


The flow of passengers and excursion buses must also be organised with various partners, to ensure smooth handling, especially when there are several vessels in the bays of Cannes and Villefranche-sur-Mer. In Nice, the ships are moored at the quay, and this is determined each week, depending on port traffic. To be at the quay allows the ship to receive services such as water supply, garbage handling, and to accept diverse deliveries.


Cruise passengers in Cannes, Antibes and Villefranche-sur-Mer are disembarked by shuttle boat to a port reception area to spend a day exploring the town and the surrounding area. They can choose between going on an excursion organised by the cruise line, or exploring the town on their own.


The tourist offices of Cannes, Antibes, Nice and Villefranche-sur-Mer welcome passengers on each cruise call, offering them tourist information on the whole of the Côte d’Azur and providing cruise packs promoting the activities of FRCC members.
